| The
Chamber of Commerce
The
Kingston Peninsula Chamber of Commerce was incorporated
in May 2001 for the purpose of promoting and improving
trade and commerce within the region, as well as assisting
the economic, civic and social welfare of the district.
Since
then, we've done a lot to promote the Kingston Peninsula
and its economy.
In
the last year we've:
- provided
several meetings with speakers talking on topics of
interest to both the general public and the business
community;
- arranged
helpful and informational meetings that discuss business
development topics;
- developed
the most accurate map of the Kingston Peninsula to
date;
- produced
a tourism brochure outlining why the Peninsula is
a great place to visit;
- developed
an Ask the Expert
advice column, of which only part is available to
the general public;
- provided
community bulletin boards to various venues around
the Peninsula - half of the Board is reserved for
Chamber of Commerce members advertisements;
- supported
a low-cost means of Kingston businesses and organizations
to advertise their businesses on the web through www.bizkingstonpeninsula.com
(this site is currently in development);
- financially
supported two high school students in their achievements;
and
- created
a wonderful website!
In
the future, we want to:
- assist
existing businesses promote their services and products,
and expand their operations;
- help
newly developed businesses find their feet;
- provide
a forum where the 80+ businesses can meet regularly,
exchange information, collaborate with each other,
and encourage one another;
- encourage
cross purchasing and cross promotion;
- provide
members with a group insurance program;
- bring
in experts to speak to members about such things as
business promotion, marketing, websites, customer
service, negotiation, presentation skills, and financing;
- source
out cost reductions for products and services such
as Mastercard, Visa, bank charges, and group advertising;
and
- provide
an organization to represent the Kingston Peninsula
area to the government concerning such issues as taxation,
transportation facilities, and garbage removal.
